This is where I write about my love of style, adventures with my family and how much I enjoy eating and drinking things I shouldn't! Living in Yorkshire with my 3 crazy daughters and ravishing husband, (ahem!) we enjoy time at our 2nd home (the caravan!) and the lifestyle of a family in the North. Hope you enjoy! xx Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05453601061992473555noreply@blogger.comBlogger31125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4171383176298715356.post-73410000136692426682018-02-07T13:41:00.000+00:002018-02-07T13:42:13.638+00:00Beat those Blues!

<span style="font-family: ".sfuitext"; font-size: 17pt;">New Year, New You!

<span style="font-family: ".sfuitext"; font-size: 17pt;">

<span style="font-family: ".sfuitext"; font-size: 17pt;">If like me, your January took forever but you don't remember doing anything, start your year in February!

<span style="font-family: ".sfuitext"; font-size: 17pt;">Now is the time to take back charge of our boring, regimented routine but soak in some of the joy we seem to save up and use in abundance in December.

<span style="font-family: ".sfuitext"; font-size: 17pt;">I'm not talking resolutions, you know, the 'New Year' type. I'm talking little things to help you keep that warm feeling of happiness a little longer, especially whilst we curse the Baltic temperatures at least.

<span style="font-family: ".sfuitext"; font-size: 17pt;">Whether it's outside, showing the world, or inside you, in your mind, I'm a firm believer that simple pleasures can go a long way.

<span style="font-family: ".sfuitext"; font-size: 17pt;">Here's 8 things that will seem huge to some and minor to others, I'm not suggesting do them all, but one or two of them might just keep a spring in your step, well at least until Spring hopefully ha!

<span style="font-family: ".sfuitext"; font-size: 17pt;">

<span style="font-family: ".sfuitext"; font-size: 17pt;">Smile! It takes more energy to be miserable than it does to happy! Hopefully you've smiled your way through Christmas, keep it going. If you're going through a hard time, do the 'remember when' game. Those times you were smiling, you were laughing. Even better, create new 'remember when's'! Make those giggles now. Laugh with a friend, laugh with a child, laugh with your partner. You get one go at this life, only you can decide whether you'll smile through it, even the hard times.

<span style="font-family: ".sfuitext"; font-size: 17pt;">Guilty pleasures! Ooh I hear you all cringing ha! I'll be honest, most of my life may be perceived as a guilty pleasure. I love being a geek! Embrace your guilty pleasure, do it as often as you can! Watch Harry Potter. Eat your daughters crisps (and replace, I'm not that mean!) Sing as loud as you want in the car to Wham! It's YOUR guilty pleasure!

<span style="font-family: ".sfuitext"; font-size: 17pt;">Sparkle everyday! That dress you bought for the Christmas do? Chunky cardi and tights, wear it one Sunday out for lunch, even better, wear it for work one Monday morning! That new shirt, tie, suit, it cost you a teeny tiny fortune, get it worn! You'll definitely have a spring in your step and a smile on your face!

<span style="font-family: ".sfuitext"; font-size: 17pt;">Do new! We all have a local and that's good, but spread your wings. Fly further afar. Try a new bar, pub, restaurant. Last months issue featured so many options over the Christmas period. All those venues to choose from and fill our sparkly boots with!

<span style="font-family: ".sfuitext"; font-size: 17pt;">Be selfish! Ok, within reason obviously ha! Say no if you want to. We all deserve time for us, we're the only ones in our head who can look after us!

<span style="font-family: ".sfuitext"; font-size: 17pt;">Perfect the flick! (Ahem, sorry!) I've always wanted to be able to do a really good winged eyeliner. I am now going to practise. What do you want out of your personal daily routine? Actually remembering to take your make up off is a good one! Or deciding to apply face cream, whether you're male or female, face cream is always a good idea.

<span style="font-family: ".sfuitext"; font-size: 17pt;">Don't save for best! The best is now! Everyday is best, overdressed is never! Always look and feel your best, it does wonders for your inner confidence and doesn't cost the earth. Even indoors, wear your favourite pjs. You may think it's overrated but that's because YOU save your best for best...

<span style="font-family: ".sfuitext"; font-size: 17pt;">Last one... and to quote one of my favourite voices at the moment, Jess Glynne, Don't be so hard on yourself? Life can be hard, it can be exhausting, it can also be damn right cruel but keep going, keep smiling, with sequins on your back, a heel on your shoe and a guilty pleasure in everyday madness, make this year your best year yet!

<span style="font-family: ".sfuitext"; font-size: 17pt;">Happy New Year Everyone!

<span style="font-family: ".sfuitext"; font-size: 17pt;">I know, I hear you, why talk Christmas already?! I haven't had my summer holiday, the labels are still on my swimwear and I haven't even had blisters from those gorgeous 'too high for me' sexy sandals yet! It will silently creep up and be here before we know it, whether we like it or not. The summer sales will clear (thankfully) and the shops will start showing heavier, richer items ready for the Autumn season.<span style="font-family: ".sfuitext"; font-size: 17pt;"> <span style="font-family: ".sfuitext"; font-size: 17pt;">

<span style="font-family: ".sfuitext"; font-size: 17pt;">Thanks to many firms wanting to save a few quid, a lot of businesses hold their Christmas parties as early as October, so realistically the planning of your seasonal party attire isn't far away. Not just your works Christmas do, but meals with family, nights out with friends, they all require suitable outfits.

<span style="font-family: ".sfuitext"; font-size: 17pt;">

<span style="font-family: ".sfuitext"; font-size: 17pt;">This years party season will be all about jewels. Embellished pieces in jewel tones are exactly what you need to look for. Emerald greens, Ruby reds, Sapphire blues are just a few to mention. Men and Women will look the most regal they have done in many seasons. Fabrics should be satin, velvet, jacquard, think royalty, think heavy.

<span style="font-family: ".sfuitext"; font-size: 17pt;">If you don't want to buy a new outfit, a jewelled bag or stiletto would be the perfect addition to an existing ensemble or a jewel toned tie or shirt would accompany an existing suit. If your outfit is simple, then jewellery is the key to staying on trend.

<span style="font-family: ".sfuitext"; font-size: 17pt;">The skies the limit! Earrings, think Pat Butcher, the bigger the better. Necklaces, rings, cufflinks, if it can be a jewel, let it be a jewel. Statement pieces will be extremely eye catching this party season.

<span style="font-family: ".sfuitext"; font-size: 17pt;">If some of this sounds too over the top for your taste, a simple brooch or decorative hair pin is an easy answer. Stylish, classy and elegant.

<span style="font-family: ".sfuitext"; font-size: 17pt;">Our great British high street will once again, treat us to a party worthy wardrobe ready for the seasonal festivities!

Not the hot guy on your train journey to work every day or the dude who passes you as you get your morning coffee, the fashion stud!
I love a stud, a detailed skull here and there, the odd pearl hiding on that favourite striped shirt. The intricate detail on an item of clothing or accessory is what makes it stand out. They give it an edge, they give you an edge. They can turn clothes into an outfit. A simple tee into a statement piece. The high street this year is full of fabulous pieces that can do exactly that and many at a bargain price. Below are a few pieces spotted on our sensational high street this week:

Depending on the venue, guests and your part in the wedding, your outfit could be one of many choices. <span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: xx-small;">Here are just a few options to suit a variety of figures and tastes...

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Fancy getting your pins out?

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">This flirty floral number has a tapered hem (shorter at the front than the back) this helps to elongate the leg and make them look longer! The embroidered detail is unbelievably pretty making this dress perfect for a wedding. The bag and clutch are very understated and so the attention is on the beautiful dress.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">(The dress can also be worn with flats for a more casual look and the shoes and bag are very interchangeable with various spring/summer outfits, which reduces price per wear and that's always a bonus!)
<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: small;">You may look at this option and think it's too boring and plain for a wedding, however for someone who is petite, the impact this look would give is quite the opposite. Colour blocking (i.e solid colours both top and bottom) is an easy way of creating the illusion of height. This outfit just does that. The halter neck and off shoulder bares enough skin to be elegant and not trashy. The simplicity of this outfit means you can be adventurous in your choice of accessories. The choice of shoes shown, with fruit sequin detail, is so on trend this season. Any bright bag or shoe is an option for this jumpsuit.
How they manage to do what they do. Keeping all those balls in the air plus looking fabulous and smiling all the time. They are the glue that holds a family together, who else knows what cereal you love or what days you need your P.E kit. They stay strong for you when you're at your lowest and only sob in silence, keeping their 'Mum armour' on.
Personally, my Mum is the strongest woman I know. She won't know that because she's still keeping her Girl Guide Motto, 'To think of others before herself and does a good turn every day.' Not bad words to live by when you think about it.
I won't be able to spend the day with my Mum this year but I have sent her a card and dodgy present that I'm hoping will bring a smile to her face. FaceTime will have to do until she's home for a human hug.
I am all in favour of a hug but I reckon most Mum's will appreciate a little something else on Mother's day. I've pulled together a short list of gift ideas that won't break the bank, (let's face it, we love our Mum's but we all haven't got Donald Trumps bank balance!):
Rapport Hair and Beauty - Leeds, YorkshireMe and mine, have been going to this family run salon for a couple of years now and every time we go, whether its to get the girls hair cut or a full day treat for yours truly, we are treated like royalty. Enough cannot be done to make sure you have the most relaxing and enjoyable time.

On my most recent visit, I had my hair, nails and HD brows done. A 9.15am arrival, after a usual traumatic double school run, (my oldest girls' school is over-subscribed, so my youngest goes to a different school), I was greeted with beaming smiles from Leah and Ashley, as they probably knew I would enter like a whirlwind and look like one too! Coat taken and hung, I was escorted to my new throne for the day. An instant wash of calm came over me and I don't just mean the gorgeous caffeine fix I received.
Discussions over my locks began, would I be pink? Would I be blue? Or do I go Lilac? Lilac it is. Now I'm not going to pretend I understand the in's and out's of toner's and dye's and bleach, oh my! But I trust them 100% with my tresses and so they begin their magic...

Whilst the mane is doing its bit, I head upstairs to work on the rest of my broken bits! Nails first! And boy are they broken!

Alex and Julie are the angels of beauty upstairs. Julie's massages have sent me to sleep on more than one occasion, to feel that relaxed is amazing. I've previously had facials, 3D lipo and waxing amongst other delightful treats that make me feel more like a woman and less like a crazy bag lady!

Alex starts on my nails whilst I witter on at her about how hectic my life is and try to come up with an explanation as to why my nails are in such a state. I fail. No judgemental face from Alex, just a smile and sympathetic ear. Even when I spend 15 minutes deciding on a nail colour, as the selection is unreal, she does not falter from doing a fantastic job with my chewed nails and anxious skin bitten hands.

Once my nails are completed, I head back to my first throne for a conditioning treatment to my locks. Already amazingly relaxed from the ambience upstairs, they begin to blow dry my hair. Anyone who doesn't enjoy their hair being blow dried by someone else, has issues (sorry, not sorry). Finished with a quick style and a final caffeine fix before heading back up to the angels for my HD brows.

Again, Alex is my beautician and she completes my final tweak in order to feel like a woman once again. I never realised the importance of good brows, until I had good brows and now... I have fabulous brows!

The place no gentleman dares enter. The sometimes bottomless pit that even we are shocked by its contents. There are many variations of the handbag. We call them many things, but essentially we have a day bag or in my case, 'a Mum bag', 'a going out bag' and probably 'a work bag'. The 'Mum bag' contains sticky things, wrappers, toys from £1 machines that come in a plastic ball and a packet of those wax crayons that contain a red, blue, yellow and green that you get in a pub with free colouring sheets. This is the least of the glamourous bags, I'm sure goes without saying. The 'work bag' is slightly more sophisticated. Small make up bag containing concealer, lippy and Vaseline for those dauntingly air conditioned offices. Probably a pen, possibly even a notepad, a small piece of fruit, bruised of course and a wandering hair bobble. The 'going out bag', the one I want to champion today is the most glittering of all, in the collection of bags. Its sometimes forgotten when buying an outfit, you always think you have one in your wardrobe that will suit, plus another £20-£30 on a bag would in fact get you more in a way of cocktails than in actual wardrobe snaps. I'm totally guilty of this. Surely you cant get to 30-something without having a medley of suitable going out bags. However, my recent wandering fashion eye has spotted that the high street is teasing me with a new type of going out bag that I really need to add to my collection. Call it what you will, Camera bag, Boxy bag, Shoulder bag, they are all of similar small size, but large enough for essentials, phone, purse, lippy, eye liner. The ones that have caught my eye are below, now its the choice of which one will I use the most!
At £20 and less, I'm sure I can stretch to that and once used more than once, the cost per wear makes it totally deductible! Treat yourself girls and spare the liver that extra Cosmo!
For example, if your job is going well and you're promoted, does that mean longer hours? More time away from home? Husband? Kids?
If your house is spotless, wash baskets empty and kids on time for school everyday, do you look like an 80's throwback with a cardigan, that now you think about it, would your mum even wear it?
Its not just women! Blokes, if you think you're going to work, coming home, play fighting with the kids, hitting the gym, getting to the rugby on a weekend, does your lass smile at you through gritted teeth?

If I sit and think about the daily things on my mind, my brain physically hurts. Even the things you do without thinking, that you do automatically.
How do we balance the immensely busy lifestyles that we have now become accustomed to?

From personal experience, I try get up, showered, dressed, bit of make up and then go do kids breakfast. Guarantee I'm screaming like an old fishwife 5 minutes after we should leave the house for school every morning. But is this just me needing to get up 10 minutes earlier or do I leave the shower and make up bit out?
Sometimes I think, Hey, I'm nailing this week! Done some washing, kids been on time for school every day, I've not looked too bad for the school run and then that sinking feeling pops into my head, when was the last time I washed the girls hair?
My most recent accomplishment is hitting the gym 3 times a week, making my Slimming World class (and staying for group - those that know, know!), planning my meals but then I realise I haven't researched any work for 2 whole weeks!

And yes I've wittered on for 3 paragraphs - but can you imagine this and working a 9-5 or worse, even longer?!

How is it flipping done? How do you get it right? How do you pick and choose what to focus on?

And you know what, you don't. Simple.

Screaming fishwife section aside, those things that I didn't do or was late for, didn't stop my world from turning round. I left a pile of washing on my living room floor (proof on Instagram 😶) for a whole 12 hours this week, but it meant that I played cafe's with my little girls and read them a story in bed. I even had the cheek to sit on the sofa with my husband and watch TV, while it sat there! And you know what, I don't care!

We need to stop being so hard on ourselves, no one else does it. We do it to ourselves.
When it comes down to it, all of the above means I've got a family, a home, food on the table and my health.

No one is Wonder Woman, even Linda Carter gave that up and as for Superman, how many has there been now?

Enjoy the every day, put the guilt away and focus on what you do, not what you don't.

Happy Friday!

Remember, you're never fully dressed without a smile!
I love it! I love the entire experience of shopping. It should make a person happy. The store, the staff, the merchandising, it should all make you want to spend your hard earned cash. Yes, I know we are in the age of online shopping and things are so much more accessible, however I refuse to believe that the good old fashioned shop, sales advisor and till will ever go away. High Street stores are too engaging to ever disappear.

Although I adore shopping, many people don't. Some don't have a clue what to buy, what suits them, what colours or shapes to go for. Many people hate the thought of trying clothes on in a tiny cubicle that usually smells of feet. Others purely don't have the time.
My goal is to change this for you!

When it comes to style, fashion and shopping, I can't get enough!

Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05453601061992473555noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4171383176298715356.post-34197231366775601282017-01-13T09:53:00.001+00:002017-01-13T09:53:21.360+00:00Let's make every day sparkly! The inspiration for this weeks blogpost comes from my youngest daughter. Her collection of sparkly tights, matches that of my shoe collection (oh its big!). Every day we 'discuss' options of tights to go with her school uniform. To this day I've never let her go in anything other than navy, black or grey. However, this got me thinking, my 4 year old who cackles like a witch and doesn't have a care in the world, wants to sparkle every day. She wants to skip out of the house in her glittery dresses and tights regardless of wherever she's going. Now, wouldn't that be nice. If you could get up on a morning and wear something shiny, even if you're only doing the school run. January is dreary enough without the thought of black and grey thermals!
So thanks to my little dude's philosophy, I've decided to add some sparkle to my school run! A daily dose of something glitzy that may just make me want to leave the warm cosy house and stand outside 2 different schools every morning! (Oh the joys of over subscribed primary schools!)
Yes I may look eccentric, but I'll be a happy eccentric! I think everyone should wear a little something on a daily basis that makes you sparkle!

These are some pieces from my wardrobe:
Get through the January blues...And...it's over, normality resumed! Whether you've returned to work at the beginning of the week or the school run has just started to rear its ugly head, you can guarantee that the alarm won't go off or the kids stay in bed later than they have done in whole two weeks they've been off! Not only that, but the thought of that washing pile you've not touched (it was your Christmas too!), the general cleaning you've dodged (who knew Christmas decorations could gather so much dust!), and yet Monday, once again, is only 3 sleeps away! (Sorry!)

So now I've depressed you just that little bit more, here is my list of 7 things to help beat those January blues...

1. Reminisce your laughter...
At this point it's probably hard to remember how much you've laughed in your lifetime. Me, I've laughed a lot. A hell of a lot. Thinking about the memories that made you laugh the most, can bring you back to a happier time.
The time your friend walked into a bollard in Benidorm and you ran off laughing or when your friend came to your hen do with a spray tan that would put an Umpa-Lumpa to shame.
The fact that your friend snorts when she laughs and that makes you laugh even more!
Thinking of all these things can instantly and without cost, bring a smile back to your face.

2. Do something for someone else
Although above I have taken delight in the misfortunes of my friends, I do like to do things for others. Its not selfish to make yourself feel good by helping someone else (whatever Joey says to Phoebe!). Spread the love! Its much nicer to make more than one person feel good, including yourself. Go see that elderly relative that you haven't seen for months, take a shortbread to a neighbour and see if they want company for a coffee. Even bag up all that stuff you've been meaning to take to the Charity shop since June (you won't need summer clothes now, its freezing!).
Trust me, you will feel better. (and if you don't get the Joey and Phoebe comment, you need to watch more Friends - see my next idea!)

3. Comedy TV
The other night I watched Fawlty Towers with my husband. He literally cried with laughter at it. Personally, not so much. I'm more of an Only Fools or Ab Fab girl myself (and Friends of course). Give me Del falling through the bar or Patsy and Eddie air kissing any day.
What I'm saying is, watch something that makes you happy. Curl up with a blanket and a cuppa, kids, husband, dog, tortoise, whatever! and chill your little ass out watching something that makes you smile.

4. Wrap up and face the world
Now you've had your cosy day watching TV, its time to get your hat and coat on! If there's blue sky, get yourself outside. It might be freezing but you all own a coat and I'm sure you all got a knitted scarf from an Aunty that you never see, for Christmas. I love wrapping the kids up and walking with the low Winter sun beaming at us. If you're lucky enough to have a Temple Newsam or Roundhay Park near by, there's little or no excuse to get some fresh air. Failing that, walk to a friends house. The blue sky and fresh air will put you in the mood for coffee and a natter.

5. Speak to Friends
Remember when your house phone had a wire? My kids certainly don't. Brought up in the new age of social media its easy to forget that your friends are actually human and not an online robot.
Physically go see your friends. Go to their house, invite them to yours, meet for coffee. If you can't get there, dial their number (or look in Contacts!) and speak to them. Not WhatsApp, Facebook, Snapchat. Actually have a conversation with a human and not a keyboard! You'll be surprised at how much you enjoy it.

6. Small Pleasures
What's your favourite thing to do? One of mine, is to sit on my bed with a cup of tea and magazine, reading with no interruptions, it doesn't happen very often, but it's still one of my favourite things to do.
When was the last time you baked a cake? Coloured in a picture? Painted your nails? Those little things that you say, I wish I did that more often, do them! Whatever it may be. That small treat increases your happiness like you wouldn't believe.

7. Plan for adventure
Yes its January. Yes we're skint after Christmas but no that won't always be the case. That trip you want to take, research it. That place you always wanted to go with the kids, when does it reopen. That summer holiday, price it up. Having something to look forward to is always a happiness booster. When my kids can't sleep, this is what I tell them to dream about, what adventure will we take next...

Remember, you're never fully dressed without a smile!
xoxo
revellers at every music festival since the beginning of time! His eccentric
look makes you want to become a ‘Space Cowboy’ and live in his ‘Virtual
Insanity’. His husky voice and ability to get into the crowds mind, would be
enough to blow you away in any venue, never mind the mass of open desert of
Coachella, filled with quirky and colourful vibes.

One of the best things about fashion is its ability to bring out the best in
people. It shows how they are feeling. Festivals are full of floral
headdresses, feathers, bright colours. Even the darkness of black is brought to
life by colour. You can instantly feel alive in what you’re wearing.

The 90's have had a recent facelift and we've had bands reform, celebrity presenters resurface and designers introduce scrunchies, bombers and platforms galore!
A pair of good dungarees are definitely a 2016 wardrobe staple. Dress up with heels or down with slip on trainers, this versatile item is one of the seasons must haves.

Materials, colours and styles are, of course, each to their own. Dresses, trousers or shorts, all are widely acceptable. My personal favourites are these Black Denim Ankle Grazers (£27.99 New Look).
For as long as I can remember I've thought about my age and in turn, what I look like.
I wore scrunchies, first time round. I wore leg warmers, second time round. I love looking back at old photos and laughing. My friends and I have made some major fashion faux pas in the last 30 years, but at the time, we looked fabulous! I love showing my daughters what I used to wear. Their giggles and 'What is that, Mummy?' echo around us and our photo albums.
A little deeper than fabric, I've always had issues with my weight and what I look like. I've always had a muffin top, prior and post babies, I've never had nice boobs, and I've contemplated a nose job! Turning 30, and very happily married with a Husband that finds me very sexy (or so he says!), I'm finally learning to love the skin I'm in! I've accepted that I won't ever be a size 10! I enjoy wine and chocolate too much. I enjoy the little things that make me happy, including food, cuddles and shoes! I still enjoy the gym, but in the same breath, I go for that time out just as much as I go to feel healthy. Your size is no-one else's issue but your own. Recently I read, Moderation is my mantra. Repeat that. Tall, short, size 8 or 16. That's you. If you want to change the way you look, then do something about it. If you don't, then I encourage you to be happy in the skin your in and let that show!
With smiles and confidence!
I love to think of new party themes. So for Ayla's 3rd birthday I decided on a Play-doh party!
Along with 99 packets of play-doh, I bought feathers, sparkles, Pom pom's, eyes and pipe cleaners. I had various shape cutters including animals, numbers and letters, and what felt like a 1000 rolling pins.
The 15 children (and parents) made exotic animals, shiny fish, busy bees and long legged spiders! I think the Parents got just as creative as the children. It's hard to sit and not play when there's so much for the mind to play with! The imagination of all the toddlers was fabulous to see! The shapes, the colour combinations, the flare with the sparkles and feathers. It was like playing dress up but with play doh!
Along with standard party games, pass the parcel and the parachute for cat and mouse and sharks, we had prizes for 2 of the best masterpieces created (parents not in participation). Ayla was the deciding judge and chose two marvellous pieces which we named 'Monster with 5 eyes' and 'Pom Pom sailboat'.
The party bags were made up of small pots of play doh, shape cutters, a rolling pin (No way was I taking home a 1000 rolling pins!) and of course a slice of the Caterpillar cake.

I had lots of compliments on the idea which is something I love to hear.
I would definitely recommend this type of party, the kids, parents and of course, Ayla loved it which was, as Mum, my main priority.
When I had my last daughter, Ayla, I found it hard to lose my baby weight. I consulted a nutritionist who gave me a fantastic diet plan. My issue was too many carbs and not enough protein. He introduced me to turkey!

Before then, I didn't realise how good turkey was. I just associated it with Christmas dinner. My nutritionist gave me lots of recipes but a lot of them were 'messy' and time consuming. I started to develop my own recipes, here's a quick and easy one with my cupboard/freezer staples....

Turkey and Med Veg Pasta

1. Add a portion (100g) of fresh turkey to a frying pan with a teaspoon of oil and cook until white. Add a portion (100g) of Mediterranean Vegetables to a frying pan with a teaspoon of oil and simmer. (I always have a packet of frozen Mediterranean veg in my freezer as I use them with a lot of meals just because they give a plain meal so much taste!)

2. While these simmer cook a small portion of Wholemeal pasta (50g) using the guidelines given on the packet.

3. When the pasta is cooked, drain and add to the turkey and veg mix for one minute. Toss with turkey and veg to get all flavours together.

This weekend, my fabulous family and I went to Scarborough. We've spent the past two nights in a caravan! We stayed at Cayton Bay and I can't recommend it enough! The kids loved it, the hubby loved it and so did I! (Can I also just add that the sun was only to be seen on our route home.)

We visited the John Bull Factory, cycled to the beach (during the only two dry hours), 'Star Treking' in the Bay View Show Bar and went to the Sea Life Centre (previous home to Paul the 'World Cup' Octopus).

Once again, I under packed! I do it every time we go away as a family. The girls have everything for every possible weather outcome. My husband (I also pack most of his stuff too!) had 2 coats and 6 pairs of underpants (we only went for 2 nights). But me, I never think of myself when it comes to packing. I never put enough thought into what I take.

I don't have a 'camping' style wardrobe. The only item I have that fits the necessary criteria is my Purple Hunters. I have maxi's, shirts, peep toes and flip flops. I needed a hoody. I needed a raincoat. I needed jeans other than skinny! I think I've given into the fact that these things must be added to my wardrobe. It won't be the last time we 'Glamp', given the amount of fun we had, so these staples will be added to my collection.

In our house, Tuesday is magazine day. If my daughter is well behaved, I treat her to one too. So today I bought Grazia and Look, as I normally do. Sometimes I'll get the iPad version, but mainly I like the feel of a magazine. And luckily enough today, after a trip to a local Farm Park and Play Barn, I'd worn the girls out enough to warrant them an hours sleep at 2pm, so I could get a coffee and a lifestyle fix!

I love my magazine fixes. I appreciate them so much more now that the children are here. Don't get me wrong, I love them to bits and I love spending time with them, but I need some me time.

Reading those magazines gives me a little bit of myself back. I have always loved fashion and retail (I've worked in retail since I was 15, Miss Selfridge, Warehouse and H&M). Its nice to see whats new, whats old and not just fashion but beauty, books, films and other various bits and pieces. It's nice to have a bit of me time and to feel like my old self. I'd like to think I don't drift into my old self, but just my new self with a different perspective. However, I will always have an outlook and an eye on fashion! I wouldn't be me otherwise and if and hour with my head in a magazine can do that - bring on the afternoon nap ha!

My favourite tee at the minute has 'Brat' plastered across the front! I love it!

I'm sure we've all seen them in various retail outlets across the UK. My husband had a 'Geek' tee, chosen wisely by my sister as a Christmas gift ha! (We don't wear them on the same day of course).

I've seen 'Nerd', 'Swat', and 'Dweeb', all fabulous! A great (and mostly cheap) way to add a fresh extra to your wardrobe that can be dressed up or down. Me, today, khaki jeggins, 'Brat' and skinny converse to do the nursery and school run. Or alternatively, skater skirt, 'Brat' and wedges for an evening at the cinema. (Photo to follow - when the husband eventually takes me out!)

Have fun fellow Dweebs!!
Think African colours, oranges, khakis, bright pops of red and yellow. Also animal print and Aztec patterns. I've put together some key pieces from River Island and Topshop, the strongest in this trend on the high street, or so I think. All items can be dressed up or down.
You may have noticed that I haven't blogged for nearly a week! Well, I have a reason, a poor one, but a reason all the same. I've been cheating! I've been cheating on fashion with homeware!
Everyone has a budget, even millionaires have a budget. Unfortunately mine has been blown on bricks and mortor as we're extending our house. So no new 'pretty' material purchases this week and I doubt there will be next week.
On the positive side, I have taken advantage of items I already have, old favourites if you like. Given I've been at home with the girls this week, I'll be honest, I've been in leggings and jeggings everyday (except Sunday when I was brave and wore a maxi and a crop with flip flops, as the husband treated me to lunch).
The greatest thing to be 'recycled' trend wise was leggings! And in turn, the 'jeggin' introduced. I don't do colourful leggings, only black, but jeggings, I'm quite adventurous. I have purple, khaki and acid wash (very much in this S/S). They are the perfect wardrobe staple that can be dressed up or down. I like a pocket on my jeggings, they make the bum look smaller. Also if a jeggin has pockets, a paired top can be short length instead of long. If leggings, then the top MUST cover the bum.
Today I've worn black leggings with a maroon t-shirt dress from Topshop with a leopard print skinny belt from H&M, black studded pumps from Office and my trusty leather jacket from Miss S circa 2005! (Staple).Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05453601061992473555noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4171383176298715356.post-90481101352278107542013-04-23T23:25:00.001+01:002013-04-23T23:31:02.305+01:00What's your number?I know I shouldn't ask this question as its supposedly deemed rude, but what size are you? In UK sizes, I am an honest size 12. I say honest as I tell people I am that size and I actually am that size. When I go in a shop, I pick up size 12's. I have curves and wobbly bits, although I'd like more curves and less wobbly bits. If an item of clothing doesn't fit I have no problem picking up a 14 (or a 16 if necessary), or in the same turn a 10 (this doesn't happen that often). I would rather something fit me properly than try squeezing into something and it possibly look and feel uncomfortable. Do you do the same? Would you rather pick up a size bigger and look better or a size smaller just to say it is a size smaller??
Personally, I don't think size matters, I think it's how you look and feel that does.

The main entrance is from Briggate with flagships Topshop and River Island. Floor to ceiling glass fronts inviting you to spend those few left over pounds you've worked so hard for.
I can honestly say I was not disappointed. I've worked in retail development for 8 years and shop fitting in particular. I think a shop environment is key to your choice in buying an item or walking straight past something. The lighting, the fitting rooms, the visual merchandising. Given the choice and the 'fight' on the high street, a retailer has to be spot on in order to keep their customer returning. Yes, the product has to be right as does the customer service, which I'll come to in a moment, but a store has to be inviting, intriguing and to an extent entertaining. I was a happy shopper today and I will be returning. I didn't spend a fortune, but I enjoyed the experience.
I went in various shops and bought something in 5 of those. Out of the 5 I bought from, 3 of those sales advisors asked me if I'd found everything I was looking for (nothing in particular), added an extra sales question (would I like a gift card) and when the transaction was finalised, they said "Enjoy the rest of your day." And frankly, thats exactly what I did. With a smile on my face and a carrier bag in my hand, I was fulfilled.
Every woman/girl wants to enjoy shopping, or so I think anyway and to do that you need to be in the right shop, the right environment and find the right item (with help if needed - Spot on shopper).Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05453601061992473555noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4171383176298715356.post-83780803981099339252013-04-18T21:25:00.000+01:002013-04-18T21:26:09.423+01:00Tacky trainers....or notI'm sure we've all seen items that we absolutely love, but could not make that leap of faith to purchase, given that we know we just can't pull it off. Better to have loved and lost than to make a fashion faux pa!
Well today I did just that. I stared in wonder at the cobalt (my favourite colour, of course) and red New Balance trainers and in my heart I thought, "Those would make me feel pretty inside, even in trainers." Unfortunately my head disagreed and the 'play it safe Linzi' said "Get the white Converse."
Am I happy with my choice? Very. Am I disappointed in myself for not taking the leap? Kind of. Will I walk past those trainers every time I go to the shop with regret? Watch this space.
At least the fashion world has been kind to us this summer. Yes, flip flops are pretty, comfy and cheap but given our wonderful British weather, it's nice to know the option of a bright and bold trainer is still on trend! New Balance, Nike or Converse have some fabulous option this S/S. Or, if you are a 'play it safe' kinda girl sometimes, as I was today, a pair of bright white pumps are perfect!
So jog on or shop on, whichever suits.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05453601061992473555noreply@blogger.com0
